Chinese New Year Makeup Tutorial|Break Conventional Norm With An Avant Garde Spin

Finding my mom preparing Laba Garlic (腊八蒜) is a definite sign that Chinese New Year is approaching. This is probably the most important and celebrated holiday for my family. And nothing is better than a colorful makeup look to honor this special occasion, which truly brings back lots of childhood memory.

Products used,

  1. NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil (604 Milk)
  2. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner (Black)
  3. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Zero)
  4. Ben Nye Lumiere Grande Color Palette
  5. Wet N Wild Eyeshadow Collection (737 Blue Had Me At Hello)

To prevent fallout, prep the eyelid with a white or nude cream base or primer.

Apply a bright yellow shadow to the inner half of the upper lid.

Paint an orange shade to the outer half of the eyelid. Blend the colors to avoid harsh edges.

Apply a hot pink or red onto the lower lash line and dab the same bright yellow shadow to the middle part as well.

Create a sideway V shape with the hot pink or red shadow and drag it out to achieve a cat eye. Again, blend everything to get a smooth finish.

Line the upper lash line with a black liquid liner and also drag it out to create a cat eye effect.

Take a black pencil liner and line the lower lash line. Then use a black eyeshadow and smudge out the liners.

For a more natural look, curl the lashes and apply your favorite mascara. To achieve a dramatic finish, apply false lashes.

The finished look is very colorful and jubilant, which is perfect for any holiday celebrations.

Do you celebrate Chinese New Year? If you do, what is your favorite activity during this festive time of the year. Even if you don't, what is your favorite holiday? For me, Christmas Santa Clause is definitely on the top of my list. I'd love to hear your thoughts so let's talk in the comments.Hi!

  9. Wow you've really made the yellow and orange eyeshadow look like a gold shade and the red really tops off the festive feeling! The winged eyeliner really emphasises your eyes and this is a great look for Chinese New Year :)
