Today I'm inviting you to come with me on a trip down memory lane. Let's hop onto our time machine, and zoom back to an era full of shoulder pads, mini skirts, leg warmers, and huge earrings. Looks like everything is bigger, louder, and brighter in the 80s. But if there is one thing we still love from the good old days, that is neon colored pieces. And thanks to the new and limited edition Stila After Glow Lip Color ($18 for 0.1 oz), we can revamp the old school look.
Stila added some fun twist to the mega popular lip crayon - black light sensitive pigments. Dazzles under sunlight, this hassle free and parabens free formula also glows in the dark when exposed to UV light.
The vibrant and colorful shade doesn't fit too well with conservative style but is super fun to wear when I want to step out of my comfort zone. I love this on my light complexion, and it also looks lovely on darker skintone.
Although moisturized and smooth throughout the days, application is less than stellar. Without a lip balm underneath, this lip crayon applies a bit on the dry side and slightly pulls my lips. For a truly opaque result, you'll need to reapply a few layers, which can easily turn into a heavy and pasty finish.
I really appreciate that Stila avoided adding obvious taste or scent to this product. It has a beautiful satin finish - not too matte and not too glossy. Just the perfect amount for a gorgeous and sexy look. Wear time is average (2 - 3 hours), and eventually the lip color will fade into a sheer and matte finish. Retouch is required for long-lasting look for an entire day.
I had a very hard time picking out one single color and ended up with Tangerine Dream, a bright orange shade, but sometimes it looks like a neon coral. I had to run this under a black light. After all, that is the selling point. The result is pretty amazing. Well, that is if you'll be rockin' some moves on the dance floor. Otherwise, I don't see much use for this.
This is part of Stila's 2013 Festival of Color summer collection. For a review of the Countless Color Pigments ($22 for 0.1 oz/3g), read my thoughts here.
Overall, this is a nice addition to my stash but not an outstanding purchase. The vibrant color payoff is decent but a bit lacking with only a single layer. Durability is about average on my lips, and wear time runs short compared to other lip crayons. Texture is creamy and hydrating but that initial application is not excellent. And about the special feature of glowing in the dark, it's really meant for those fun occasions rather than a daily wear. I don't regret getting this but probably won't be purchasing any other colors.
And before I end this post, I want to say - Happy Mother's Day. Wish all the moms a wonderful day. Smile because you are the best ~Angela
